Thanks for carrying this, AM, and as one long interested but never quite convinced by Marxian critiques, I am trying to get my head around some theorists in an unbiased fashion--maybe the same way I approach religious studies. Z appears to have done the impossible, a tenured prof with no students to bother with, and his "rumpled rock star" status among some on the left I recall learning about years ago via the late, lamented Lingua Franca which sent up academia splendidly in learned, witty fashion. I wish the journal was still around if only to remark upon the cover image: disheveled, paunchy author in front of a burning car on the streets--but is it live or Photoshop? One of the best parts of this otherwise cobbled-together collection is his pair of asides to his stint in the Yugoslav Army as a recruit ca. the mid-'70s. That period appears to be ripe for a memoir; given his voluminous (if as this book betrays, cut and pasted and repeated without acknowledgment) output, he may well have told his military tales elsewhere already.
