In two years in government Labour has lost people in The Dail, The Seanad, Councils … and now Europe..

No real surprise to read that

Nessa Childers MEP has resigned this morning from the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) to join fellow Labour members in opposition to campaign for Labour policies.

“I entered politics to help people, and am now resigning from the PLP because I no longer want to support a government that is actually hurting people.

Although not leaving the party she thinks that

“… there is a possibility that we could see a group of people coming together to take up the ideas and values of Labour – leaving the party and its members hostage to a leadership that appears to be more comfortable with policies that protect the more privileged in Irish society.

We’ll see….

Commenting on media reports relating to a “leaked” document from the external EU-ECB-IMF Troika, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Ireland, Eugene Mc Cartan, stated that the report confirms that our people are being used as guinea-pigs in a monetary experiment being carried out and controlled by our political masters in Europe, with the political buffoons of the Irish establishment bereft of any semblance of national or personal self-respect.

It is clear that no matter which combination of establishment parties may make up any future government, they are mere rubber stamps for the European Union and the big global finance houses.

Just as in Cyprus, democracy has become an obstacle to the needs of monopoly capitalism, and the people’s choices and concerns are quickly pushed aside. We have to ask how long it will be before we have the bean-counters from Brussels going round our hospitals, seeing if everyone in a bed is sick enough to be there and if not then dumping them out the front door, or determining if every person with a medical card is truly entitled to it.

We need to end this nonsense and build a collective movement of our people to bring about real radical change, to end debt slavery and put a stop to the drive to make the economy one widespread precarious employment, with low wages and no rights for workers.

Yes Tim Parry's death was a black day for republican's, but it was also a wake up call for many, and I like to think some good eventually came out of Tim's death. Although I doubt that will be much comfort for the lads family who behaved admirably despite having suffered such a grievous loss.

Today is the 20th anniversary of the death of Tim Parry, blown to pieces in Warrington. A black day for republicans who weren't listening in geography class and couldn't tell the difference between Warrington & Liverpool, 25 miles apart.
