Boston tape’ claims should give us pause

The tapes were made a number of years ago, when Boston College began compiling an oral history of the Troubles. Under the title ‘Belfast Project’, the college accessed interviews with a number of people who had been engaged in violence on both sides of the divide.

Highly regarded journalist, Ed Maloney, conducted the interviews, in conjunction with researcher, Anthony McIntrye, who had served time for his role in violent republican activities.
All of the participants gave the interviews on the strict basis that they wouldn’t be used until after their deaths.

Thus, they felt free to speak, in the knowledge that there would be no repercussions.

The last line speaks volumes. The participants believed they could talk freely..

The article goes on to say...

An oral project of this kind is greatly valued through the long eye of history. It can fill gaps, flesh out narratives of what happened, in particular violent incidents, and gather details of how public events were manipulated or handled within paramilitary organisations.

It also provides an insight into the minds and actions of those who felt compelled to cross a threshold into the dark place where killing other human beings was regarded as acceptable.

The value of these recordings is heightened by the failure to establish a ‘truth and reconciliation’ commission in the North.

Sometimes it'sjust, fact is more stranger than fiction***...Take the David Irvine interview where he was told in 1994 that the Feds & Mi5 wanted to discredit Irish republicans to advance some war on terrorism. Hard to believe but it's true. And they got away with it.

As for the claims made on Cryptome..Maybe it's who they didn't mention. To make people take their eyes of the ball (bit like the snowden-gate affair today)

I've never bought into the doctored bullet story. Not saying it's not possible, just doesn't add up with the story. Basically how FRU where able to round up the hit squad almost as soon as it happened, they FRU just happened to be in the area ..... I am convinced the truth of what really happened during the conflict is stranger than fiction.

***I'm trying to find the video footage of a civil rights march in Derry where one of the marches 'doubles over in two' and he makes it look like a B-special/RUC whacked him in the stomach with a baton. The truth is the guy wasn't hit at all. There is footage of the protester standing beside Eamon McCann in a documentary (late 90's early 2000) where he admits (protester) it was pure method acting.

Fiction...Gerry Adams, Danny Morrison etc want the world to believe they did every thing to end the 1981 hunger strike...Fact, they prolonged it.

Just possible that somewhere within the Cryptome website (and others like it) when you separate the truth and fiction, you'll find the smoking gun...

The major problem with sights like these is believing or disbelieving.

Disinformation is a cruel thing, be it from the British or the PIRA , to many people have been topped on info like that.

Myself personally speaking believe that "Steaknife" is still around , but not the person who is accused of being that agent. As for the bullets being doctored when adams car was ambushed, the bullets went straight through the doors, no doctored bullet would do that. They have even named Padraig Wilson ffs. Good reading and would make an excellent novel, but I'm not akin to sci fi or anything fiction.

If the other tapes are handed over and those who gave the interviews are brought in for questioning by RUC/PSNI/MI5, I believe there will be chaotic havoc in Republican Circles once there identities are known and would be under serious threat.

I stumbled on to the Cryptome website sometime around 2007 and Anonymous makes the claim that the FRU have been running spies within republican & loyalist paramilitaries since the very early '70's. He or she (anonymous) makes the claim that an agent by the name DOOK has been working for State forces since around 1971-72....

Today the more I read the more questions it throws up. I sit back and wonder who was fighting who, who was on who's side...More importantly who is telling the truth..I believe Brendan Hughes account in Voices (and David Irvine)..I've no reason to disbelieve Dolours Price.

I glad that Ed & Anthony are trying to give laymen like myself a chance to understand just WTF happened between 1968-1998......

Basically the jist of the article is, Gerry Adams is asking for an inquiry into the recent Bank Tapes but dismissing the Boston College tapes.

As for the BA having hand held radio devices in the early 70's...Fred Holroyd mentions that the increment/Group 13 (MRF) had hand held radio devices in the early '70's in this video fast foward until 5mins 15sec..

There are underlying reasons as to why these docs have been excluded from normal docs from other regiments.

Could these docs contain Names of top secret agents and allowed to remain dormant , and , those same agents still parading as SF!. I don't think that would be in MI5's interest , nor , the British Governments, nor , SF's. It would make one massive worldwide headline though, "TOP SF OUTED AS BRITISH AGENTS". What a dream that would be.

Good luck to you both ,its worth a go and it highlights potential evidence that is being kept out of the public domain,if the argument that the BC tapes is all about evidence gathering,then surely that argument would apply to the diaries of the first Gloucesters, but I reckon there would be more chance of Irish Robinson keeping her knickers on in a kindergarten than those diaries being released without being redacted beyond readable..
