That's not what I was suggesting at all, Anthony. I agree that the Sandy Hook families have very real needs, they are just not needs that can be addressed financially, while there are children in other parts of the world we can save, if we give some more serious thought to our philanthropic investments.

I think the families of Sandy Hook need all the support they can avail of although financial assistance will probably do little to help them gain peace of mind, the most elusive of things in the wake of these events. The point I wanted to make is not that the Sandy Hook kids are somehow privileged and less deserving of our concern but that all children should have equal rights in a world where cruelty all too often seeks them out. The rest of us may be bastards but children are the truly innocent in our midst.

This is great, Anthony, and very timely. In the US, there has been a great deal of discussion regarding the distribution of the $11 million raised for the victims and survivors of Sandy Hook. While I understand the desire of people to want to help, and take away some of the pain the families who lost their children are feeling. The reality is that Sandy Hook is in. Relatively affluent area. I seriously doubt any of the families had trouble covering the cost of burying their chidlren, and no amount of money will bring them back. Those who were injured will, likely, need money to cover the cost of their medical treatment, particularly if it is long and complicated, even if they have medical insurance. How wonderful would it have been if the money raised for Sandy Hook had been raised for the poor in India, or any other part of the world. Can you imagine what an impact that much ,money would have? Lives would be saved, lives would be changed, by outfitting and equipping schools, clinics, hospitals.
