Christopher conley jnr.a cara I think qsf is similar to Fianna Fail in one respect only and that is they both pay lip service to a united Ireland and do sfa about it, now that qsf have their hands on privliged positions as micro ministers in an unaccountable quango set up by the brits and endorsed by the government of the republic,and do not have to make tough decisions and with their dup colleagues can make sectarian decisions and not be held to accountable,do you honestly think they give two fucks about a united Ireland,maybe they would if Westminster held the same sway,come to think it nearly does!

Good article and great comments by yourself and TAL Fanzine esp regarding their devolution into a Provisional Fianna Fail.

I feel like there is a good rebuttal to SF when the argument is made that armed republicanism only leads to funerals, martyrs, tragic history and a new library for sad songs to be sung in AOH Halls and Irish bars ...

But along those lines I think there is a very weighted question that pops up every time you hear about their "Strategy for a United Ireland" when it seems to be that their strategy is "Do the exact same thing that failed for Fianna Fail for the past 86 years"

First chance I have had to read this post Anthony and it was Roberts comment that directed me to it,and which I totally agree with him it is an excellent post,while shaking hands with any form of royalty is to me a republican is a no brainer, the position and theater qsf displayed over this whole affair has made them look like the power prostitutes they really are,as Larry said remove the words "peace process and move on"and you could nearly expect to see springs and cogs exploding from the skull area of qsf mutants.the days of the Shipman double and weasle Martyboy are coming to and end,

A perfect answer to your critics and those who would seek to censor political dissent.

The 'peace process' has become an article of faith that is not to be questioned under any circumstances, very much like those articles of faith of Catholic doctrine (like papal infallibility) that I rebelled against as a teenager.

It seems that to be a 'republican' of the Shinner variety now involves blind faith in the infallibility of our 'leaders'.

All that youth and energy wasted on a futile war that brought even less than was on offer in 1972/1973 and for a strategy and political programme that is a mirror image to that of the Stickies, except of course that the Sticks can at least point to some semblance of socialism in their strategy, whereas Sinn Fein is 'red socialist-lite' and 'green nationalist-heavy'.

However, it's a disservice to the Stickies to associate Sinn Fein with their strategy, because SF are closer to the tactics of De valera and Fianna Fail than they are to Goulding and the Workers Party.

I heard that. It was the expression of a need for the Northern leadership to keep itself relevant and in control and not to allow it to be usurped by a Southern perspective that would place stress on post peace process issues such as the economy and which the Northern perspective is not so crucial. The party in the South is continually tripped up by the politically violent past of leaders like Adams and McGuinness. Mary Lou couldn't hack it on the Vincent Browne show whereas she can hack the cut and thrust of social and economic matters.

McGuinness on RTE last night kept saying 'the peace process' that many times it was unbearable. SF hides behind that phrase so much if it were withdrawn from the English language [ to quote John Hume re Unionists and the word 'no' ] then SF would be speechless. They may be correct about violence being counter productive and past its sell by date, but surely so is their clinging on to the mantle of 'republicanism' and the quest for a united Ireland. Seriously tiresome at this stage.
