It is not that I don't agree with Sinn Fein's economic plan. I just don't think they would ever implement it. And when Pearse Doherty articulates it he does it so much better than his leader. One of the sorest points of the election is the fact that Eoin O Broin failed to get elected in Dublin Mid West. He could have made a difference to people's lives and when the ideology and posturing is left behind that is what matters.

The devil is often in the detail Jude. And on this occasion the detail is used to expose a wider deficiency in the economic awareness of the leader which Dickens cannot rescue him from.

And of course I will return the courtesy by having a read at your blog.

I'm sorry Anthony never reads anything I write; I read anything of his that I come across and often enjoy same.

Just to clear up one point: there is a difference between facts and knowledge, as Charles Dickens demonstrated with his hilarious invention Mr Gradgrind in 'Hard Times'. And I once taught a youngster who could tell you the entire timetable on any given day for the Winnipeg Transit System. He couldn't do anything with it but he knew it. You may or may not agree with Sinn Féin's economic policy - OK, OK, you don't, I hear you - but I'm sure if you're fair-minded you'll agree that knowing a particular fact proves nothing, just as not knowing that same fact proves - that's right - nothing.

I found that interview that Jim McAllister talks about just shocking. Adams seemed blithely unconcerned. Maybe he wasn't worried about seeming out of touch with people's lives, because relatively speaking, he was no more out of touch than his rivals.

Enda Kenny on the 'leaders' debate last night answered economic questions by saying FG had it's economic policies on www.FG.ie so maybe we already know where we're headed, down the tubes beyond recovery.
