Rory, Please think nothing of it. I have very thick skin,and am offended by nothing short of the collective misuse of power by organized authority. If you want to be an accomplished anti-authoritarian,a good skill for this world of looming power over the individual,just learn to trust yourself more. While I associate with some republicans socially I have never been a member of any republican group, I have never dealt drugs, never robbed, never committed a violent act, yet I have been the subject of constant low level Garda harassment for the last 11 years.
(sectioned 30ed, house searched twice, searched on street, I don't know how many arrests and convictions for 'public order offenses' and motoring offenses.

I was f****** convicted of carrying a 'sharp pointed knife', a 2 1/2 inch utility knife with a blade and a saw, outside a pub beside which was parked my van with an 8' fishing boat in the back any a load of fishing tackle, I went to the station the day after the arrest, with the boat still in the back of my van and told the most senior Garda on duty that I was carrying the knife because I was fishing, which, strangely enough was the truth.
The same inspector gave 'evidence' the day I was convicted of that particular 'offense'.

This is all a matter of public record, I have the documentation, the suspended prison sentence, the probation officer, if you need proof.

I certainly was never involved in any the RIRA or the CIRA activity.

I imagine the there are many people in my situation or worse up north.

I found the post interesting. I am alway hungry from news from the streets up-north. I completely distrust the main stream media, especially down here.
Our Gardai are largely unarmed. Which is certainly a good thing.
They are far less intimidating than the PSNI. But it does not stop them harassing people and being heavy handed when they feel like it.

Upon seeing my last post in print,it seems glib-not usefully informative. Having experienced on the receiving end and implemented when on the other end-true community policing,I have learned that the police must be demilitarized and partially disarmed in order to stop the bullshit that is being described in this posting of AM's. They are an armed combatant group which has the additional problem of belief that they are the law,rather than officers of law enforcement--big difference. They must openly decommission beginning with Article 44, if there is to be a lasting deescalation. Shouldn't be a political problem for any party currently in power there,since it's a British tradition.

Obviously and many of course do not want any uniform of any persuasion in ulster, you cannot have a peace process until it is 50/50 membership within it from both communities.

This is an excellent dismissal of the suggestion that policing is becoming normalised or apolitical; how could it ever. Yet PSF will still attempt to spin and repackage what they have signed up to as some form of service. They remain silent on the issue of political policing and harassment of Republicans, choosing only to comment when it is their own members who feel the crown force.
