Great post,and when you think of the players in that team from all those who layed down their lives on hunger strike to prove that their fight was not a criminal enterprise,to the men and women who suffered brutal and degrading treatment at the hands of the so called security forces and the screws, and those who still suffer, and then one looks at the back room boys of that team, Scap,Donaldson,and who knows how many other highly placed scumbags, and then we can understand the term match fixing,another thing which always bothered me is how the fuck was Dennis Bradley so close to the spooks and the leadership of prm and what exactly was his role in the whole murky businness,I think Bradley is a quare piece of work!Richard O Rawe, has shone a light into a dark place and hopefully in time the truth will emerge ,and those who betrayed those gallant men get to face the wrath of the republican community,

Having read many of Rusty's pieces over on Slugger I wonder why he/she hasn't pursued a career in journalism? Rusty's stuff is really that good.

I mentioned this before. At the time of the 30th anniversary of the 1st Hunger Strikes, former hunger strikers, Pat Sheehan and Raymond McCartney appeared on the Miriam O'Callaghan radio programme...

Pat referred to the various initiatives which attempted to bring the hunger strike to an end; the ICJP, the Red Cross, the Pope's envoy, etc. However he failed to mention The Mountain Climber.

Was he not told about him at the time; did it not raise his hopes a little?

No?

Then hasn't he heard or read about him since; in all these 30 years?

I was taken aback; why did Pat not mention the most important initiative of them all, Brendan Duddy, The Mountain Climber?

This is the stuff of nightmares, too awful to contemplate, yet too blatant to ignore.
Who will fall on the sword to spare the great leader any more shame? Sadly, the party loyals would readily form a dense queue or a queue of the dense from Sevastapol Street to Gerry's Norfolk home or his luxury pad in Donegal.
Death by a thousand cuts would not be enough for the Siles of this world to prove their unfaltering loyalty. She would insist Mc Guinness was behind her spouting more lies and pouring even more salt into the opening wounds.
The match could still end in disaster though, given the precarious nature of the Masters loyalty and his ultimate quest for self-preservation, he might be forced to change teams once again and eventually blow the whistle.
