Marty they are doing their dirty best to secure a conviction; even riding roughshod over diplomatic protocol in regard to the asylum application. The reason why they want to convict Gerry is so that he can be given a long sentence so that when he is released on license they will have the threat of revocation to hang over him. As we have seen in recent years the Brits will revoke a Republican's license on a whim; especially if they refuse to toe the line.

Gerry is on the mend at the moment but still rather weak and housebound. He had to have another 3 stents put in. There were farcical scenes in the hospital while he was there when the crown forces came onto the ward to seize his medical records in an effort to determine how soon he would be fit to return to the show trial. It would appear that the crown prosecutors intend to make good on their promise to have him in 'gaol for xmas.'

Well isn’t that noble of them. Isn’t that exactly what British government policy is all about in the north?

PSF MPs and TDs come to the USA (Adams, McGuinness, and Caoimhghin O’ Caolain) blowing smoke up everyone’s arse and a good number of the members of these “vetted” Irish-American organizations, unfortunately, are not “in tune” to what is really going on in the north since the signing of the Stormont Agreement. They, like michaelhenry, just follow blindly and never challenge them - not out of fear, but out of ignorance. The attitude here toward PSF is…”Okay, there is peace in the north of Ireland”. “Sinn Fein won”. “Everything is wonderful”!

I feel truly saddened by what is happening to republicans who dare to question the status-quo. I am especially angry about how loyal republicans, who served in the IRA, are being marginalized, threatened, beaten and discredited because they didn’t swallow all the “kool aid”. If it’s any consolation to you, I am finally starting to get emails and calls from people in the north and south of Ireland asking what they can do to now help Gerry. People who openly told me “they don’t support Gerry’s religious views”, but feel “he is definitely getting the shaft” and want to know what they can do to bring more attention to his case. Who knows, Fionnuala, maybe the tides are changing – for the better I hope.

Helen, the term 'Mainstream Republican' has now become almost exclusively synonymous with those who belong to and vote for Sinn Fein.

They (Sinn Fein) do tolerate a degree of opposition, provided it is low key and censored.
However, anyone who presents a stong oppostion to them are instantly labeled as disjointed and dissenters.

Several months ago a former Sinn Fein representative, Dessie Ward, reported that 'leaving the party was like leaving the Mafia'
Mr Ward said, that although he tried to keep his departure from the party positive and amicable, many of his former colleagues appeared intent on making his life a misery.
Mr Ward was verbally abused on the street, he was challenged by former party colleagues when out shopping with his family.

Mainstream republicans, have infiltrated and practically taken over all aspects of community life, therefore, few can speak out without it being noted and registered somewhere.

There is a very genuine fear amongst people in relation to giving an honest opinion.
Very few people will ever totally let their guard down when speaking about the 'Mainstream Movement'
The sad reality of it all is, people will not even speak out about things they know to be wrong.

Could you imagine it, the denial of the century. Barbra Streisand and all his other admirers would be in attendance everyday throwing their inner garments round the court. The tree society would also be there, to ensure he got his morning hug.
Helen it really is too much to contemplate, even for the Brits it would prove too much.

Helen, there is a real climate of fear here in the North, there is great antipathy against anyone who ventures outside the allowed opinion.
There is also a lot of apathy, people are aware of the situation with Gerry and Vincent and the majority of people believe it is wrong, however, few will give a comment outside of their own friends and family, because they believe if they do, they could place themselves in real danger with 'Mainstream Republicans'
Mick Hall wrote something very interesting a few weeks back about the danger of turning a blind eye to injustice, however, people are people and many believe saying nothing is the better and the safer option.

Your attitude toward anyone “outside of Sinn Fein’s control, plays right into the hands of the Brits and Loyalists and that is why Gerry and Vincent are where they are today. Thanks to people like you. Prior to the signing of the Stormont Agreement, such injustice would have been challenged by republicans and never tolerated by PSF. You just don’t get it! Gerry McGeough left SF because he didn’t like the direction PSF was taking republicanism and he was against their pro-abortion stance. His prerogative like it or not. However, does that give you or anyone else the right to hang him out to dry? Try to think outside the box. If the Brits get away with incarcerating McGeough and McAnespie on these over 30 year old charges, who is next? The book "Defenders" is a work of fiction...but I guess the Brits are too stupid to realize that? Grabbing at straw, wouldn't you say? Also, Gerry Adams and some other SF members appear in "Provos" by Peter Taylor. So will they now be required to appear in court to defend and explain themselves for taking part in this documentary?

It is frustrating, Fionnuala, but it is more disturbing to me that the majority of republicans, who know the score, are not speaking out on Gerry and Vincent’s behalf.
Are they afraid of retaliation? Have they just become so complacent with the status-quo?
Or is they just don’t give a damn, because it doesn’t touch their lives – at least not for now?

Robert I have to agree with Fionnuala regarding protection for informers who were out to destroy the republican cause. These people were used against their own side to try to destroy it. Whereas loyalist and state force murder gangs colluded with each other and were given a free ride to kill catholics and nationalists. Take Brian Nelson for instance who was allowed by the british government to bring weapons in from South Africa. Which resulted in the deaths of many nationalists including human rights lawyer Pat Finucane. We all know how the story goes. Sanctioned from the top and covered up by all and sundry. Sadly the reality is it can and will happen again. As in the case of Gerry Mc Geough it shows us that the british government are still intent on abusing human rights against anyone who stands up to them. Where will it all end!

I think SF are confronted with the shortcomings of their strategy. They have promoted a justice system which the Gerry McGeough case shows to be flawed. Years ago when SF was not supportive of these British institutions the party would readily have spoken out against the treatment of Gerry McGeough but now feel exposed if they say too much.

This trial is killing him and Gerry is a strong man. I also can't help but feel that PSF appears to be complicit in all of this by their obvious silence on the matter. Not once in 3 1/2 years did anyone from PSF publicly condemn this farce of a trial and demand it be stopped immediately for Gerry and Vincent. What are they afraid of?
